The second half of this week went pretty fast, I can't say the same for the first half. I have now completed a full week at my new position and I finished teaching my first class at Madison College. That's pretty exciting. I'm very much enjoying my new position. My new PI is just like the last, she just lets me do my thing. I feel like I'm so much more productive when that happens. I've gotten a lot done, but there is a lot left to do. But that's okay, I like being busy again, it makes the day go by so much quicker.

My class at Madison College also went fairly well. I'm not sure. I had one no show and one student that only showed up for the first day, but all the rest of my students seemed fairly happy with everything. Well I'm sure they were as happy as they could be given the limitations of the classroom. But hopefully it went well. My next class is in two weeks at night downtown, so hopefully it will be better. That means I have to go get my Faculty ID, I've been putting it off. So I'll have to make some time.

I've also been working on custom order. I had to place a bead order, so I'm getting as much done as I can before the beads come in and then I'm going to be working like a mad woman. I'll only have a month and a half to get this one done. I sure hope I can pull this one off. Fingers crossed.

But enough about that. Let's get to today's freebie.
It's been a crazy week. I ended my position in my old lab and I started my position in my new lab. It's been a transition, but luckily my new PI kinda let's me do my thing because I've done this a few times before. I'm glad she trusts me enough to let me go on my own. It's made the transition a lot easier. And hopefully I'll be able to get back into working on a project as soon as the lab is all set up.

Hmm, what else? The weather has cooled down quite a lot here. 80°F on Monday and 59°F today. And it's October, so we all know what that means, HALLOWEEN. I've had my Halloween decorations up for a while now, but with the cooler weather, it seems to much more real. I still have a few more things to do (because I love Halloween and I love to decorate for it), but the majority of things are done. Now to just get that costume finished. Another thing to add to the list of what needs to get done.

But enough about that, let's get to that freebie, and it's a Halloween one.
I guess it's been a tiny little while since I've last posted on my blog (this is also a little late, I should have posted it yesterday). I have no excuses except that life got really crazy. *Warning this is going to be a long post*

As I did mention in previous posts, my boss decided to leave the university and go into private practice. It was not a decision I wanted, but it was the decision he made and I didn't really have that much say in the matter. That decision did mean that I would be loosing my job. My very beloved job in a lab that him and I started from the ground up. To say the least, it was a difficult time for me. I had to try my best not to be bitter or angry.

The worst part about it (okay, him leaving was the worst part), was that no one seemed to know when my last day was. I talked to three or four people and none of them could give me a straight answer. So I started to panic a bit. What if I just showed up and didn't have a job any more? It was more than a little nerve wracking to not know what was next.

But I pulled myself together, updated my already awesome CV, and applied for a few positions. I applied for four positions and got called back to three of them. I'll admit, I'm a little hurt I didn't get called back to all of them, but I'll get over that. And out of the three I got called back for, I was offered two (I turned down the interview for the third because I had already accepted a position, so I may have been offered that one as well). I accepted a position at the vet school with a new hire. It's not quite the same research I've done in the past, but it seems very interesting and I'm excited. I'm just moving down the hall from my old lab and closer to a lot of the people I know and work with on a daily basis. My first day is October 1st, so only a short while longer in my old lab. It does still make me sad that I'm leaving all the things I helped create behind and that the university is loosing a great researcher, but it's time to move on.

While all of this was going on, I was offered a part time gig teaching a continuing education class at Madison College. I will be teaching an Etsy intro class similar to the one I teach at the library. This one is a little more broad and doesn't cover quite as much, but I think it will be fun. My first class starts this week and I've been working my butt off to get my training done, my syllabus turned in, contacting everyone I need to, checking my class roster, and getting my actual class ready to go. It's been exhausting, but exciting. I can't wait to start. And yes, I will still be teaching at the library as well.

I've also been working on a number of custom orders for one of my best customers. I've finished up two more beaded cuffs and I started the design on a new bead embroidered gauntlet for him. These are the last of the projects for a while. I need the holidays off.

So those are a few of the reasons why I've been neglecting this blog. I'm going to try my hardest not to do it any more, but no promises. I do have photos of my new bead storage and few other projects I'd like to share this week, so don't forget to stop back. And if you don't see any new posts, go ahead and get on me for that. Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13893389570447888654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2733357217064497375.post-16375817039469969012015-07-31T10:04:00.000-05:002015-07-31T10:04:14.152-05:00Friday FreebieIs it really Friday already? This week really went by in a flash. Where does the time go? Though the week went fast, I don't have much to share. I upgraded to Windows 10. I'm liking it, but now my Office won't open, so that's not really cool.

I did get the final word on whether my boss was staying in WI or going to Austin. He's going to Austin, so that means it's time for me to start looking for a new job or somehow up my Etsy sales. I have a feeling that getting a new job is the way I will go. It was a difficult day when I found out, but I'll be fine. I always am. That's just how academia works. You never know when funding will run out or when someone will leave for a better opportunity. It's just how it works. So now I have a couple months to find something new or decide what else I can do. Like I said, I'll be fine and get through this.

Not much else happened this week. I'm putting the finishing touches on my custom order and should have that finished by this afternoon. I'll be happy to get that finished.

That's about it. I guess learning that you're loosing your positions is enough news for one week. So let's get to this weeks freebie.

Well, it's time to start the week and get things going. So, what happened this past weekend? Not too much. We got some work done around the house. On Saturday J installed an air conditioner in the garage. He's not sure how much he's going to use it, but it will be nice to have on the hot, humid days.

We also got the deck stained. And it looks so nice. We still need to do the facial boards between the stairs, but the hard part is finished. I'm very happy with how it looks. I can't wait for us to put the furniture up there so we can enjoy it again.

And while we were out working on the deck, we had an audience. We have baby bunnies. They are so cute and I just want to squish them, but I know they need to be left alone. There are two of them and they are big enough to be out and about and play. I love watching them.

And the most exciting news. I have zucchini in the garden. a lot of zucchini. I'm so excited and I'm already planning all the different things I can make with them.

I didn't get a ton of beadwork finished this past weekend, so that means I will have to work overtime this week to get everything finished. But, that's okay.

What did everyone else do this past weekend? Did you enjoy nice weather? Did you get work done around the house or did you get some artsy stuff done? I'd love to hear about it. Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13893389570447888654noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2733357217064497375.post-75624853805985414752015-07-24T08:49:00.000-05:002015-07-27T08:34:25.891-05:00Friday FreebieWell another week has passed and it's Friday again. It was a pretty busy week here and it's going to be a busy weekend. We have to stain the deck on Saturday. I know that sounds like so much fun. I'm sure most of you are just dying to come over and help. But that's okay, we've got this. ;-) And on Saturday J's parents are stopping by. Busy, busy weekend.

So what have I accomplished this week? Let me think. I finished the beadwork on a custom order. I've been working on a secret project that I hope to finish soon. I've been a busy little bee in the lab. I finished my photo composition class, reviewed my exposure class, and finished my black and white photography class. And I've been working on my photography. I can take all the classes I want, I'll never get any better if I don't go out and practice. I've started adding things to my Zazzle store, so go check it out. I've also thought about putting stuff up on CafePress. If anyone has any experience with CafePress, I'd love to hear from you.

But enough about that, let's get to today's freebie.

to get the discounts.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and stay creative.Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13893389570447888654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2733357217064497375.post-41946380945037355052015-07-20T09:39:00.000-05:002015-07-20T09:39:09.390-05:00Weekend Wrap UpMonday, Monday. This weekend just seemed to fly by and it's not like we were really all that busy. J worked in the garage for most of the weekend (how and why in this muggy hot weather, only he knows). I worked on a few new projects.

This is the start to a custom cuff. I'm excited to see how this looks like when finished (when am I not). It's not the color scheme I normally go with, but that's the fun of doing custom work, you get to work in patterns or colors you normally wouldn't.

I'm also working on another project, but that one will have to wait a little bit to be shown off. Maybe next week some time.

Other then that, I didn't really do much else. I did buy a new pair of shows. Yay. Fun.

I also got a new bag.

I'm thinking about using it as a camera bag. It's quite large and I think it would make a good bag for day trips. I already have a nice insert that will fit almost perfectly. Yay, new bag.

So it was a pretty boring weekend. Had to get housework done as well as bead projects. Sometimes you don't get to have a fun weekend when there is work to be done.

What did everyone else do? Did you get out and have some fun? Ha, I can rhyme. Okay, enough of that. Let's get down to business.

This past weekend was a good one. The weather was beautiful, a little on the warm side, but still beautiful. It allowed me to get a little bit of gardening done and a little bit of yard work. My tomato plants are covered in buds, so I'm going to have a lot of tomatoes this year. Yay.

J and I also went to Night Light at the Madison public library on Friday. It happens every few months and it's a themed party at the library after hours. This time it was horror movies. It was a blast. We met up with a few friends, had a few drinks, did some crafts, watched a bad horror movie, and played around in the photo booth. It was a lot of fun. I highly suggest that if you are in the Madison area, you check it out. It's completely free of charge (the drinks cost money) and a great time.

Let's see, what else did I do? I practiced my photography a bit. I'm slowly working on becoming a bet photography and learning composition. I'm not going to lie, it's hard. It's a lot harder then I thought it was going to be. The UW offers a short course and I'm thinking of taking it once I'm done with my current course. Maybe I can talk J into taking it with me.

That's about it for the weekend. J worked on the garage quite a bit and I worked on some custom work that's due next month and did some cleaning (because our house was kinda gross). J's parents came over on Sunday and we just sat around and talked and then went out to dinner at Waypoint in Monona. Not really that exciting of a weekend.

It was Art Fair on the Square weekend, but I missed it. I'm kinda sad about that. It's the first year I haven't gone since we moved here. But that's okay, there is always next year.

So what did everyone else do this weekend? Fun things? Craft things? Relaxing things? Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13893389570447888654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2733357217064497375.post-58363551232607418592015-07-09T09:23:00.000-05:002015-07-09T09:23:33.697-05:00New CuffsSo I've been a little lazy with the blog lately. Ugh, this always happens this time of year. I'm busy with all sorts of life things, that I forget to keep everyone else up to speed. I'm sorry.

So how about a few photos of some new cuffs. I've been going through all my old patterns and I'm finding a bunch of things that I've never beaded up. So my goal for the summer is to work up as many patterns as I can and get both the cuffs and the patterns up in my etsy shop.

So the first one is a butterfly cuff. Obviously.

I had a client a few years back that wanted a butterfly bracelet, so we worked on a few different ideas. This was one of the rejected ides, but I still really liked it. So I worked it up and now it's up in the shop.

The second one, I really like.

This simple plaid pattern was made for a client that wanted just a little bit of plaid (about an inch on each side) on the edges of a bookmark. I liked the plain so much, I extended the pattern and made it into a full cuff and put it up in the shop. And look at that great button I pulled out of my button collection, perfect match. I'm in love with this and I think I might make myself one. I also think it would look great is other colors.

So that's what I've been up to. The patterns for both of these cuffs will (okay, should) be up by next week. And I'm hoping the share the photos of my awesome bead storage system with everyone by next week. Yay!Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13893389570447888654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2733357217064497375.post-82499398923735078522015-07-08T08:00:00.000-05:002015-07-08T08:00:01.989-05:00Wordless Wednesday

What have I been thinking? What have I been up to? We've been busy, I think. Since J has finished school, I feel like we're constantly going but not really accomplishing much.

I bought two new lens, which is fun. I bought a new macro lens and I bought a telephoto lens. I've been practicing using them. I've also been working on my composition and my photoshop skills. Slowly buy surely I'll get good at this. :-)

I've been so busy with work because the fiscal year ended on June 30th. It's always busy this time of year. We have to get a bunch of things finished up before the new fiscal year starts. But now the new fiscal year started and we can get back to a little bit of normalcy.

Our 4th of July was okay. We were very busy and traveled all over to see friends We cooked out a lot and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We had a few bonfires and made delicious smores. It was nice to spend time with our friends. But it was exhausting and I'm actually glad to be back to the normal work week.

I did make a little bit of time for beads! I finished a new custom order. I'm so happy with it and I'm hoping my client likes them as well. I now have to work on a few new patterns and look up some bead colors. I also have a few new cuffs that I need to get photos of them and then get them up on Etsy.

That's about it. Not really all that exciting. A little bit of beadwork. A little bit of cookouts. A little bit of enjoying the weather. Not much other then that. What has everyone else been up to? I hope everyone had a good 4th of July. Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13893389570447888654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2733357217064497375.post-32638601660405118892015-06-19T09:04:00.000-05:002015-06-19T09:04:05.310-05:00Friday FreebieIs it really Friday already? Where did the time go. This week seemed to just fly by. Really quickly. It just seems like we've been going nonstop since last Thursday. Cookout with friends. Trivia. Pizza Night. Movie Night. Dinner with friends. It's been a crazy busy week. And it doesn't help that I'm in the lab constantly. Right now; in the lab. Tomorrow morning; in the lab. At least I have Sunday and Monday off.

Good news is I've also gotten a lot of stuff I want to do (aka, needs to be done) finished. Okay, maybe not finished, but a good start. I've got my new bead storage up and my beads on it. I'm so happy with it and can't wait to share it. Next week I promise. I also have the majority of the beadwork finished for my latest custom order. If you want to see progress shots, check out my instagram.

But enough about all of that. Let's get to this week's freebie.
Here is south central WI, this Friday is starting out as a wet and rainy day, but I believe it's not supposed to last. Which will be nice. Granted I normally work a little bit better when it's rainy out (I really do love rainy days), but I do need to finish up working on my bead storage system and rain will only slow me down. I also have to go to the grocery store today, and I don't want to get rained on while doing that.

That's enough about the weather here. This past week has been pretty uneventful. I've finished the beading on my mixed media project and one of my friends volunteered to model my jewelry for a little photo shoot. That's about it. That's about it. I've been really super busy in the lab. Not really anything that exciting happening here. It was a laid back week, but sometimes those are pretty nice.

Oh I did give J his first photography lesson this week. It didn't last very long, but he seemed interested. The funny thing is he was frustrated with the lens I gave him. He just kept telling me how much it sucked. I gave him the kit lens that came with the Rebel XT ten years ago. I've been telling him for 10 years how bad that lens was, now he knows. AND he's already started looking for a new lenses. Yes, my plan worked! Now he knows why I never use that damn kit lens, it's terrible. Side note - I do have numerous lenses, but up until now he complained every time I bought a new one because he didn't understand why the kit lens wasn't good enough. Silly boy.

But anyway, let's get to today's freebie.
This past weekend was the first weekend that we had nothing planned. NOTHING! It's so strange and weird when that happens. I feel like I'm forgetting something, but I'm wasn't. We decided to take full advantage of having nothing planned and just take it moment by moment. We went out for dinner a lot. A lot more then we should have, I'm a little ashamed of that, but sometimes you just have to go crazy. The weather was beautiful, so every meal we ate was outside. I love doing this, it's one of the main things I long for during winter. Who doesn't love eating outside?

With beautiful weather to enjoy, we decided to go to the zoo and check out the new Arctic exhibit. It was very nice. Madison has a completely free zoo. And it's amazing. It's not a big zoo and it' doesn't have a huge number of animals, but the exhibits are quite large and the work they do is amazing. Especially since it's FREE. They just welcomed a baby orangutang and are helping mom and dad become great parents. We didn't get to see her, but the pictures of her are adorable.

They also have two juvenile grizzly bears that are adorable together. They were playing together and were just so cute. The zoo will have them until they are adults and then they will more onto bigger and better places.

The new polar bears were also adorable. They have a restaurant in the park that is right on the polar bear exhibit, so you can eat with the bears. It was pretty neat. We didn't eat there, but I plan on doing so in the future.

They also had new prairie dog pups. Oh my, they were some of the most adorable things I've ever seen. I would have happily stayed all day and watched the little ones play.

And this guy just made me laugh. He had the cutest little face and was just hanging out by his pond. I got a ton of photos of him because I was just a little smitten with him. What can I say, I love turtles.

After the zoo we headed down to State St. for a little car show. They had some beautiful cars. We ate lunch at a little Nepalese place and just enjoyed the day together. It was so nice to not have to be anywhere.

On Sunday we just stayed home and worked on some stuff around the house. I started a new mixed media piece. Which I wasn't that into it at the beginning, but now I'm really starting to like it. It just goes to show, that first impressions aren't everything.

We also worked on my new bead storage. I am super excited about this and I can't wait to show it off. But no photos yet, I'm going to wait for the big reveal, which I'm hoping will be this week or the next. I plan on sanding and painting today and hopefully by mid week it will be put together and even possibly installed. I'll give you an update on that as soon as I have one.

So that's about all I accomplished this weekend. What was everyone else up to? Did you have plans or did you just roll with the punches? I'd love to hear about it.
I am still recovering from all the craziness. This past weekend was J's graduation party. The big kind of party. Family, friends, neighbors, strangers walking by. You know the kind; everyone was invited. It was a lot of fun, but parties like that are a lot of work.

I went to bed on Friday (okay, it was technically Saturday morning) at 2:00am and was up at 6:00am. So four hours of sleep was all I managed before I got up and started getting ready for the party. It was a very long day. But it was a very fun day and it was a lot of fun to see our friends and family. A lot of them we haven't seen for quite some time, with J being in school and all. So it was worth it. I unfortunately didn't get any photos because I was so busy being an awesome hostess. Oh well, next time.

I didn't just party this weekend. I worked on a bunch of new sketches and have a million ideas swimming in my head right now. So many ideas!

I also finished up my latest custom order. Okay, I still have to add the laces, but the hard part is all finished. Yay! This one was a lot of work and I'm so happy with how it turned out. I can't wait for it's new owner to see it. I really hope he's as happy with it as I am.
Today I plan on working a bit on this bad boy. It's been so long since I've done anything with it. I would love to finish it up by the end of June, but alas, I don't know if that will happen. Fingers crossed it does.

And of course, I could never get anything done without my faithful studio helper. She's a real slave driver. (Good god, I have to clean that window).
So what did everyone else do this past weekend? Did you have beautiful weather? Did you go to any parties? Did you work on something creative? I'd love to know! Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13893389570447888654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2733357217064497375.post-42569517499247010232015-05-29T09:42:00.000-05:002015-05-29T09:42:28.376-05:00Friday FreebieOh my, it's Friday already. It's been so crazy busy here. I've been trying to finish up the gold beaded gauntlet before the end of the month. I met my goal, oh yeah. And J and I are both trying to get ready for his graduation party tomorrow. It's one of those huge, invite everyone you know party. I'm sure it's going to be fun, but boy it's always a lot of work getting ready for it. So that's what most of my day will be; cleaning cooking, etc, etc. I'm hoping for a little bit of time to work on my solar system project, but I'm not sure if that is going to happen.

But that's enough about that, let's get to that freebie (and I need to get my butt back to work).

have some really great scrapbooking things. And even if you don't
scrapbook, the software and extras are really awesome. I don't
scrapbook, but I love the software to make interesting blog post
pictures. I even used it to make some labels for my homemade granola
bars, so J wouldn't have to guess flavors anymore. Just use STMMMS11215

It was a busy, happy, celebratory time here! J graduated with his masters of engineering. Well, technically he graduated in December, but he got to walk the stage this past weekend at the UW Madison ceremony. It was a full day, that's for sure.

We had to get down to campus at 9:30am to pick up his gown and have class photos taken. I entertained his parents while he did this (we got some coffee/tea and sat at the terrace). He had decided to forgo the large UW ceremony (it was all graduates in Camp Randell) because it was very hot and humid and he was more excited about the afternoon ceremony (oh yes, there were two ceremonies). So we headed downtown to get some brunch (and I got myself a couple of bloody mary's). After brunch we headed up to the Kohl Center for the ceremony. It was a nice ceremony with all the engineering graduates.

I am so proud of everything he has accomplished. It's not easy getting a masters degree while still working full time and remodeling a home. I don't know if I could have done it. I'm proud of him and what ever the future hold for us.

And even though it was a super busy weekend, I did find a little bit of time to work on my latest custom project. I better hurry up, this is due next week. Fingers crossed I get it finished in time.

So how was everyone else weekend? Did you attend any graduation ceremonies or are you getting ready to do that? Did you enjoy the weather or did you have some of that scary spring weather? I'd love to hear from you. Victoriahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13893389570447888654noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2733357217064497375.post-13037177280266304532015-05-15T08:54:00.000-05:002015-05-15T08:54:27.015-05:00Friday FreebieOh my, it's Friday again. This weekend is a busy one. This weekend is graduation. J is graduating. Well, technically he graduated in December, but this weekend is the ceremony. We have a lot of things planned for this weekend. Dinner, ceremonies, etc, etc. And on top of all of this, it's also J's birthday. So today I'm making him some boozy cupcakes to celebrate. Yum! I'm so proud of everything he has accomplished and I love him so much.

Okay, okay, I'll stop with this sickening lovey stuff. Not too much else to report. I'm about 70% finished with my custom gold gauntlet. Now I'm just waiting on more studs so I can get that finished up. I'm loving the way it looks (want to see? head on over to instagram). I'll hopefully have a few photos soon, hopefully of it completely finished.

Other than that, I don't have much. I know exciting. But that's fine, that means we can get to that freebie.
