Something New!

I feel like I've been slacking on the new projects.  I guess I just haven't been super active with creating while redoing my studio.  But the other day I decided I needed a small project that would have almost instant gratification.  Something that wouldn't take a month or two to finish.  So I made this.

I bought this fabric years ago and love it.  It's bright, it's cheerful, it's lovely.  It has tropical written all over it.  I used it to cover my memo board in the studio and I used it to line the inside of a bag.  So have a bunch of smaller pieces left over that I just couldn't convince myself to throw out.  Everyone has something like that.  You know you'll never use it, but you can't get rid of it.

So I came up with this idea.  If have all these small scraps, how about beading them up and seeing what they look like.  And I love it.  I might do things a little differently next time, but for my first attempt I'm pretty happy with it.  What do you think?

Here is a little detail shot of it.  The fabric what pretty light, so I backed it with some moleskin fabric I use for other beading projects.

I also realized that I CAN NOT use my automatic focus.  These pictures are pretty blurry even though the camera said they were in focus.  I do this every time thinking I can get away with just using the auto focus.  I guess I'll never learn.

But anywho, back the project.  I haven't backed it yet because I'm reading up on different options.  I've never done a project like this and then left it in the hoop, so I need to figure out the best way to back it and hide all the threads.  I've read a bunch of interesting posts online and might try a few different options.  Do any of you do embroidery where you leave the finished project in the hoop?  I would love to know what method you find the most useful.

Happy Monday and don't forget to stay creative.

I don't have any tips on the backing process, but the finished beadwork looks great! You're right about the fabric. It's so satisfying to find a use for those leftover pieces.

I always shoot product photos in program mode. The auto focus never does as good of a job with that kind of work.
