New Beadwork

I've actually been beading again.  It's been a while.  I think the last time I sat down to bead was before my last show, which was in June.  That's sad.  Alas, I've been busy with so many things.  A nice tropical vacation sounds great right about now.

But that dream vacation will have to wait.  I have to get ready for the next round of art shows coming up.  I have a show in August that J can't wait for.  It will have coffee tasting and a car show, two things he loves.  This show might be as good to him as the one with the beer tasting.

I also have to get ready for a Pow Wow I was invited to last month.  I have till September to come up with some "traditional beadwork."  I was asked to bring my normal beadwork, but also bring along some more that looked like traditional Native American beadwork.  And that's what I've been working on.

I've tried to come up with some patterns that have a traditional feel, but are still me.  Here are a couple that I have finished so far.

I have a few more that I need to take pictures of .  I figured I would work on some that are only half inch to one inch wide and are a little bit more simpler in design.  Then once I have a nice supply of these made up, I'll more onto making a few more complicated designs.

I have been studying traditional Native American beadwork and am awed with the beauty.  It's one of the reasons I started beading as a child.  My first bead project was a beaded band for a Native American doll my mom was commissioned to create.  I think it's what hooked me on beadwork.  I hope that I do the traditional artist justice with my beadwork.

Now I'm off to create some more.  Always stay creative my friends.
