New Cuffs

So I've been a little lazy with the blog lately. Ugh, this always happens this time of year. I'm busy with all sorts of life things, that I forget to keep everyone else up to speed. I'm sorry.

So how about a few photos of some new cuffs. I've been going through all my old patterns and I'm finding a bunch of things that I've never beaded up. So my goal for the summer is to work up as many patterns as I can and get both the cuffs and the patterns up in my etsy shop.

So the first one is a butterfly cuff.  Obviously.

I had a client a few years back that wanted a butterfly bracelet, so we worked on a few different ideas. This was one of the rejected ides, but I still really liked it. So I worked it up and now it's up in the shop.

The second one, I really like.

This simple plaid pattern was made for a client that wanted just a little bit of plaid (about an inch on each side) on the edges of a bookmark. I liked the plain so much, I extended the pattern and made it into a full cuff and put it up in the shop. And look at that great button I pulled out of my button collection, perfect match. I'm in love with this and I think I might make myself one. I also think it would look great is other colors.

So that's what I've been up to. The patterns for both of these cuffs will (okay, should) be up by next week. And I'm hoping the share the photos of my awesome bead storage system with everyone by next week. Yay!

What's going on with that studio?

So as I mentioned yesterday, I did get some work done on my studio.  Which is pretty awesome.  I am so excited to move into the new space.  I think it's going to work out so much better then the old space.  It's also going to give me the opportunity to purge a lot of the crap I've accumulated over the years.  Which means art/craft supply garage sale in the spring!!!!!!

What did I get done?  Not as much as I would like, I'm learning that doing a total makeover and purge is a lot more stressful then I thought it would me.  But I did make progress, and that's what matters.

The new floors were installed.  I'm loving them.  Granted anything is better then what was in there before, but I really like the new floor.  And it goes so well with the wall color.  It's just such a bright sunny spot.

Then updated trim went in.  The previous trim was very thin cheap stuff.  It had started to warp, which isn't good (it was not installed the best).  The new trim is taller, has a decorative edge, it's white, and it's composite.  It's quite nice.

And once the trim was in, it was time to start moving things in.  It's been pretty slow.  I've only moved a storage container, the rug, and a book shelf (with books).  Oh and some arts J got me the last time we were in San Diego.  But I'm not in a rush.  There are a few things that need to be built, but that will have to wait till spring (it was 9° out this morning), so I have time.

I'm pretty excited.  Hopefully I can get some good quality photos and not just have to use instagram photos.  Or not, we'll see.

So that's where I am with the new studio.  Slowly moving forward, but still moving forward.

What's New!

So I thought I would share a few pictures with you. This is what has been consuming my life the last few weeks. MY NEW LAB!!

So here are a few pictures of the new lab I'm helping to start up. It's a very time consuming process, but it's such a great opportunity for a young researcher assistant like me. And introducing myself as the lab manager to reps doesn't hurt either. Hehehehe!

This is what a lab looks like when there is nothing in it. As you can see we don't even have chairs yet. (I know it looks nothing like the labs on CSI, well, no lab looks like that, even fancy new ones.)

I have a room full of empty shelves, drawers, and cabinets that are waiting to be filled with fun new research equipment. And that is all I've been doing for the last two weeks.

Luckily I have finally started to get in supplies, so the shelves aren't as bare any more. I have a handful of items (beakers, flasks, tubes). So the shelves have started to fill up. There are so many things you use everyday that you don't even think about.

I don't even have a computer yet. I've been working on my personal computer for a few weeks now. Some day the computer will come. Someday all my equipment will be here and we will be able to start some science soon, yay!

I'm very happy here all the people seem like really nice people to work with. Change is good, and I'm very glad that this change was forced on me (even if it didn't seem like it was a blessing in February).

I'm hoping to have the majority of set up done by next week, so maybe I won't be so exhausted when I get home every night. I've been putting in a lot of hours right now, but it's totally worth it. Then I'll have time to finish the cuff I'm in the middle of right now and maybe drag out the photo tent and take some pictures of a few new things I've been working on. Next week I promise to get back to beady goodness.

And of course the ever happy Captin Epi who watches over the rotor keys for the centrifuges.

I also should have new puppy pictures by tomorrow, I'm going for a visit tonight.
